Although all of us in Doctors for Life are disappointed with the results of yesterday’s referendum on the Eighth Amendment, we have nevertheless been enormously encouraged by the numbers of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals who joined with us on the campaign over the past two months. Our sincere gratitude goes to each and every one of them.
The implications of abortion legislation on medical and nursing practice in Ireland will become very clear in the near future. Doctors for Life will continue to defend the right to life at all stages and will be a clear voice for those health care professionals who do not wish to use their skills against the weakest members of society, of any age. We will not perform any action to deliberately end the life of any of our patients.
